Meet the 4-Footers!
Mike and I love our animals. To us, even though we do have the two-footed kind running about, our pets ARE part of our family! More often than not, you'll find us adopting a stray, or picking up a critter we've seen running loose! It is inconceivable to either of us how others mistreat their pets; either thru physical abuse, neglect, or even indifference. Please folks, although the Bible says that "God created man to have dominion over the beasts", it does not give you the "right" to consider any form of cruelty toward a four-footed creature.
RIP Mask, July 1997 - March 2007. He was my "keekat", and I still miss him. Mask was affectionately known as "cat who thinks he is a dog". There is no better description for him other than "possessed". We adopted his mom but then we were welcomed with 5 little surprises - this little devil being one of them. From kittenhood (sleeping in the dog's food dish), to chasing the dogs down the hallway, Mask has had one heck of a personality. He absolutely LOVED "catgrass" and as you can tell by the pictures, looks like he is off in lala land when he gets his paws in a container! Another favorite pictures of mine was taken when he was five months old and trying to help decorate the house for Christmas. And honest everyone - he had this cute little "bark"... I think he lives on in Puck...
This is my Angel, my 'little-girl' as she is always called... Most of the time, her real name is never used! Angel was adopted in April 1998 when she was about 6 weeks old. I'll never forget how I first saw her when the folks who were giving her away came over - huddled in a back corner of the cat carrier facing the corner walls! And, believe it or not, she still finds the darkest, most distant corner to hide in! If you visit our home, you'll never see her! At the time I adopted her, Mike was working out of state, so Angel would sleep curled up up in hand, holding my finger with her tiny little paw. When Mike finally came back, she refused to come out - because she didn't recognize his voice - and to this day, still does that whenever anyone visits. I cannot believe she is 10 yrs. old already!
Puck: n. A mischievous sprite in English folklore. And gracious! Does he live up to his name! We adopted Puck in July 2007 from the Pima County Animal Control Center. And, from the time we brought him home, he has made sure we knew his personality! In fact, we actually waited a week or so before we searched for his name! Always on the go - part Siamese (or maybe full, not sure), he loves to steal washcloths from the laundry basket and hide them behind chairs. And that is only 1 thing! He is a lover-boy though. When he is tired and wants to be held, he will paw your leg until you move and then jump up on your stomach, wrap his paws around your neck and promptly purr himself to sleep. He reminds me in so many ways of Mask - and he could be, you never know, consider he will be a year old around the same time we put Mask to sleep...
Say hello to Nickie! In May 2002, a new shelter was opening up out here in Phoenix, and we went there - with the honest-to-goodness purpose of looking for an 8-week old puppy, preferably a doberman or golden lab. Well, when this scrawny mix-breed (lab/collie) black and white bundle of nothing but legs looked through the cage doors, I couldn't stop thinking about her - and you guessed it, she came home with us then. When we moved into our house, the first thing we tried to get her to do was to go swimming with us - which, as you can tell, she had negative feelings about doing! However, within 2-3 weeks, we had her taking flying leaps into the water! If you want energy, she is definitely a handful! She's a lover for sure!
The newest addition to our family is 'Bubba'! I've read that our animal's personalities 'fit' their names - and this is truly the case! If you have seen the movie Snow Dogs, there is a line in there when explaining a sled-dog team is something like "Those that aren't too bright go to the back of the pack" - well, that's why his name is Bubba! In truth, he is highly intelligent, and we LOVE to have a 'howling fest'! (though I'm sure the neighbors don't appreciate it!) Our pool is his place, and even in 40 degrees, if he wants a dip in the pool - he nonchalantly decides to take a dip! We found Bubba walking down a main road here in Phoenix in September 2002 during a monsoon storm, and since then, this special guy has become a permanent part of our household!
